Aviation Career Day

Hillsboro Aviation held our annual Aviation Career Day on Tuesday, April 21, 2009. This event is put on in conjunction with the Hillsboro Chamber of Commerce and their School-to-Work program. High school students from Washington, Multnomah, and Clackamas counties are invited to come learn about various careers in aviation. Participants this year included Portland Community College’s Aviation Science degree program, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and Horizon Airlines ground crew. Presentations were also led by pilots from Skywest Airlines, Horizon Airlines, Aero Air’s medevac unit, and Hillsboro Aviation’s helicopter charter department. Along with listening to these presentations, the sixty students who were in attendance also had the opportunity for some hands-on learning in the airplane and helicopter flight simulators. This event occurs every April, so if you know of a local high school student who would be interested, have him/her put Aviation Career Day on the calendar for 2010!

Bundesamt für Wehrverwaltung Approves Hillsboro Aviation For Training

Hillsboro Aviation has received approval by the German Ministry of Defense as an official training facility for veterans. Army veterans (after 12 years of service) have the possibility to use their last year in service for flight training at Hillsboro Aviation and receive full salary while doing so.  Depending on the amount of time the served, and their rank, they may also receive additional funding in the form of grants. Although we have received general approval, all potential German military students still need to go through an individual screening process. Below is the letter from the German Ministry of Defense.

Portuguese Website goes live

Last week Hillsboro Aviation launched their Portuguese website. For all of you Portuguese speakers, check it out here! Brazil is one of the most prominent developing countries in the world. Their aviation industry is growing astronomically. Current flight schools in Brazil provide good flight training to prospective pilots. However, by training at Hillsboro Aviation, students are able to spend less money, and train in a very unique environment. Many students all over the world have dreams of training in a foreign country, but it often seems like a goal that is unattainable. That’s why we at Hillsboro Aviation have set up programs that make it very easy for foreign students to come train at our school; learning how to fly helicopters and/or airplanes. We look forward to hosting our new Brazillian students!
